the background: The Museum of Boulder recently purchased a beautiful, modern new space in the heart of downtown Boulder. The brand team took this opportunity to completely refresh the museum experience. But their challenge was two-fold: people think they know all there is to know about Boulder (cue the stereotypes), and perceptions and experiences from the old History Museum were likely to carry over.
We needed to show Boulderites and visitors that the new Museum of Boulder was to be a source of inspiration and connection for all, shift perception that museums are static and history-focused, and make the Museum a “must-do” and a place to return again and again.
the ask: Develop an identity system and creative platform that would break perceptions of what museums are “supposed” to be.
